This review isn’t for the game, but the system itself. Even though Sony does not advertise it, this model is HUGELY improved in quality over the launch units, and the units sold in the first year (it’s actually a new model/hardware revision,CUH 1215A) . Unlike many of the PS4 models sold, there is no annoying CLICK! when it powers on and off (which caused the lights to flicker in my room), there is no loud wwwrrrRRRRR sound as the fan spins up, the LED light bar is brighter, the disc drive and fan noise is now quieter than the Xbox One (which is very quiet already), it produces far less heat, and the overall picture quality is a step above the launch models (brighter colors, clearer details, noticeable improvement of the HDMI output quality). All my games look better across the board, with the same video settings as before. It’s really a shame (but also great) that anyone buying a PS4 for the first time now is getting an excellent product, while there are millions of people out there with cheaply made, lower quality older models.
If you’re in the market for a console, this model is the best you can buy, and the best console overall (better graphics, more gamer-centric features, disc based games that can be played immediately (no 10GB day one patches like the Xbox), fast software updates, a lot more Japanese-made
I bought a Forza Designs wall mount for mine so that the Vader theme really shines. It looks wicked floating on the wall like that. The console is not wrapped with a skin or anything, it’s actually etched in. Freaking gorgeous! Check out the pics.
If you like SW and still haven’t purchased a PS4, get this bundle! Just keep in mind in order to get the most out of Battlefront you will need a PlayStation Plus subscription to enable online play which is another $50 a year…not a huge deal since the perks with PS+ are well worth it. And if you want more content down the road, cough up another $50 bucks for the season pass. I will say that the maps are gorgeous, the characters are very well done. I love running around Tatooine, Hoth, Endor and Sullust. They did such a good job recreating the scenery. Playing with 39 other people and engaging in massive objective-based battles is pretty awesome. If none of that sounds fun then you have a game with maybe 3 hours worth of solo content….however 2-player couch co-op is a lot of fun too. So yeah that’s my 2 cents – I love the console, just wish the game had some sort of campaign with it. Let’s hope the 4 expansions down the road will be worth the extra money!

Second, I am not, repeat NOT a fanboy (O.K. I was one in the past, first Atari, then Nintendo, and even championed the ill fated Dreamcast for a bit) and even prefer the X-Box controllers for some games. It was not about placement of the d-pad and left thumbstick, but more that I have big hands and the Dualshock always felt too small for me, the handles too short and the thumbsticks too close together. I did get used to it and liked everything else about it. Thankfully, the Dualshock 4 fixes these problems.
Even putting aside the light bar, touch pad, and speaker (all of which I am looking forward to seeing implemented in interesting and innovative ways) the Dualshock 4 is the most changed, most improved controller since the original Dualshock improved on the original Playstation controller (edit: actually, thinking further back, the SNES controller was a HUGE improvement over the NES controller; which often caused hands to cramp and bruised thumbs, leading to the term “Nintendo Thumb”). In fact, the most interesting change is that “Dualshock 4” appears nowhere on the controller (I guess there was no good place to put the name).
I did take a few pictures if the internals while I had it open and will post some in customer images (there are only 4 #0 Phillips head screws, but there are 4 snaps/catches holding it closed, 2 in front between the thumbsticks and 1 on each side about 1 inch from the shoulder buttons, making it not too hard to open). I may post an update once I’ve actually used it with my PS4 for awhile.
PlayStation 4 THE PHANTOM PAIN EDITION (Japan import).
This is a PlayStation 4 THE PHANTOM PAIN EDITION (Japan import).
Import Game – Japanese Version
Important notes. The version I got was Korean, and likewise in Europe they use the 220v system whereas in Japan they run 100v and in North America we run 110v. But none of this matters because the ps4 has a universal power supply which takes 100-240v and converts it automatically. So, just use your standard power cord and plug it in. You only need to keep the funky cord if you plan to ever travel abroad.
Next item, keep in mind that O is the okay/enter/advance button on these and X is the back button. It might throw you at first, but that’s all. It’s not wrong.

This is because I recently had the PS3 freeze up, and had to turn it off manually. This corrupted the data, and the only way to fix it involved me losing EVERYTHING. So, okay, fine. At least I had gotten back up and running again. I had made it about to the point in the game where I was before, and then a new System Update came out. I tried to update, and — GUESS WHAT? — the data is corrupted again! There is no reason that the console should be having problems like this. My PS2 never did this. So am I going to just lose everything again? I’m attempting a useless system restore right now, but if I can’t fix it without losing everything then I might just go to Xbox, which means a lot considering that I’m a Gran Turismo fan.
Sony made these consoles poorly. No hate on the company that sold me the console. Make your own decision about whether or not you want this — just keep in mind it is not reliable! I have the Super Slim, and in my experience the Fat consoles tend to be better. Still, I don’t think that is currently my problem. Regardless, the system is still restoring after more than 24 hours, so I don’t have much hope.
I still love Playstation, so maybe I won’t give up. I don’t know. Just letting all of you know about my experience so you can make a decision!
One thing I didn’t realize with the PS3 is the fact that it downloads via the Wi-Fi. Well, I knew it, but it didn’t occur to me how good that Wi-Fi needed to be. IF YOU DO NOT HAVE SUPER HIGH SPEED INTERNET THEN BUY THE GAME DISCS, don’t buy from the Playstation Store. It can take an extremely long time for them to download. I do have high speed, but apparently it’s not fast enough. That’s not the PS3’s fault though – that’s my internet provider. And downloading while it’s wired works better. But if you buy the disc, it does fine since it doesn’t have to deal with a full download.
As for the PS3 itself, it’s great. A nice step up from the PS2 (though I still LOVE that console!).
My seller was amazing. I got the PS3 in two days without paying for two day shipping because my total (with shipping) came out to be $200.70. It was perfect and well packed. I recommend buying from EZCorp if you can – it’s worth it for a decent used item.
Now with the PS3 entering its twilight as a console, I’d found this model for just under $200 & decided to buy it.
Although late in its cycle, there’s a backlog of great games released for this system- & there’s still games being released for it. Plus there’s the HDD- at 500 GB, that’s 25 times the space in the original PS3 “fat” model that came out nearly 9 years ago. That should be more than enough for your gaming needs (& if not, the disk drive is replaceable). You can also store other things beside game data- photos, video, & music files as well. & if you don’t have a Blu-Ray player, the PS3 plays Blu-Ray, DVDs, & CDs too. Add a video app (like YT, Netflix or even an Amazon Prime Video one) & you have a console that can handle almost all your entertainment needs outside of games. Just be sure you have internet service & you can connect the PS3 to it via Ethernet or Wi-Fi.
& I love the wireless controller that comes with this. Prior to buying this, whenever I hear a wireless controller, I think of a controller that runs on store-bought batteries. Yes this does run on batteries, but they charged with the power of the PS3 via the USB cord which comes with it, rather than having to go buy batteries at a store. It only comes with 1 controller, so be sure to buy an extra one.
So despite being late in its life cycle, this is still a great console for those who never owned a PS3, have a tight budget & are weary about spending hundreds of dollars on the current game systems.
PS: about the model design, this is a Super Slim. & despite some complains I heard about, I really like it. It has a cool look, is smaller than the previous models, & uses less electricity- thought it does get warm at the bottom after its been on for a while (as did my PS2 Slim BTW, which still plays after having it for nearly a decade). The PS3 does make noise as it reads the disc, but it’s not really loud. & once the game starts, the system itself is very quiet. Also while many may disagree, I like the disc player being on top. That in a way also reminds me of the PS2 Slim. In the end, don’t let the design keep you away from buying this. It’s a very reliable model.
PlayStation 3 PlayStation Move Bundle.

The PlayStation Move places you in the game through ultra-sensory precision.
-Blu-ray – You get one of THE BEST Blu-ray players around. I also own the top rated Samsung 3D Blu-ray player that gets applause for its lightning fast load times. My PS3 was nearly the exact same speed in my side-by-side comparison. It is also a future proof Blu-ray player with it’s 3D capabilities.
-320gb Storage – THE most storage available from any OEM console. I have my entire MP3 library on here and it streams perfectly to my surround sound system. I’ve set up playlists for all occasions and it really rocks the house. I also have 5 HD movies that I love to watch and rewatch saved on here. Given that I don’t really REwatch stuff mutch, I probably will only save my favorites but I am sure to have enough space.
-Video Apps – Hulu Plus and Netflix are both so extremely robust I have actually cancelled my cable. They both stream in HD through the PS3 and look beautiful.
-Best Exclusive Game Titles – Between the Killzone, Uncharted, MLB The Show, Gran Turismo, Little Big Planet, Mod Nation Racers and Infamous series you can’t go wrong. It has all the same cross-platform titles as the rest but these exclusives look absolutely stunning. There is no question, that a game designed for the PS3 looks like the most amazing thing in console gaming to date.
Motion Controller – I was skeptical about this. I have a Wii. It’s fun enough, but it’s a Wii and they games are well, dull. This is amazing. I cannot get enough of Ping Pong and the Gladiators game in Sports Champions. The 1 to 1 tracking works exactly as promised. The motion controller even operates the XMB (cross media bar, the main menu.)
Pandora – Yes, the PS3 web browser will go to […] and stream your stations through your surround sound. I’m listening to “my” station right now.
Hands down, this is the best home entertainment value around. It has games for everyone in the house including little ones, teenagers and games for more mature folks. It also has a bunch of family friendly games. I know I sound like a paid spokesperson but I couldn’t be happier with this console. From most of the reading, the poor reviews are really a result of slow shipping (likely their own fault for not choosing carefully) so be careful when reading reviews. As for Amazon, I buy A LOT from Amazon. Nearly every piece of electronics I own comes from them and given the A+++ customer service experience I’ve had I will never shop anywhere else. Yes, there is a BB 15 minutes down the street but they can’t touch the level of service I’ve received from Amazon.
